I love this old saying: –
“Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; but about learning to dance in the rain”
In other words – don’t just sit and wait for things to get better before beginning to get active; just adapt to the current circumstances, and learn how to adjust what you do, and how you do it.
We have four distinct weather seasons each year, and we naturally adapt to the inevitable change that each season brings. We quickly bring out the summer clothes when it gets warm – we get the BBQ out, and start to adjust our thinking – maybe getting ready for our holidays. We plan all the time for the season we are entering. Equally, as the season changes and the cold weather moves in; the swimwear usually goes back in the wardrobe, and the winter woollies come back out.
We do not have to try to focus on this, it comes naturally – adjusting to each season is something we do instinctively.
In view of this, it is quite surprising to see some businesses are reluctant to change and adapt to the season that we are in – many are sitting and waiting for the pandemic storm to pass, rather than learning to dance to the different tune that is prevailing at the moment.
As Henry Ford famously said: –
“Stopping your marketing to save money, is like stopping your watch to save time”
It is certainly a vastly different season for business now – that is a fact that we can’t deny. But one thing is certain – those who are more entrepreneurial, and who quickly learn to dance in the rain, are the companies that will come through the storm, and they are the companies of the future.
